Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. They each have something to share. For some, it's their fabulous cooking, it's their sketching, or their love of people. My students love teaching me about their language, food, and culture. They made me think "Ceviche" was a swear word for an entire class one day. We're going to cook it next week.
My students are going places, they have stories to tell, but first, they have to write them and for that we need your help.
My Project
My students are diverse and therefore have diverse needs. Part of these needs, are that they are self contained/special day class. Imagine if you were stuck in the same room all day in the same desks, facing the same wall? Awful right?
Wouldn't you be more willing to listen if you could stand up during the direct instruction, sit in a cozy 4 ft bean bag chair to listen to reading, or lay on an Ottomanson shag rug snuggled in a farmhouse cotton throw blankets as you write a bestseller?
These kids need space to be independent learners, and with that they need to be responsible for their own choices, starting with their environments.
