This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and have a variety of needs. They are willing to try new things and work hard! They are eager for new learning experiences that they have typically not had access to due to their ability or behavior limitations. They keep me on my toes every day and teach me how to be a better person and a better teacher for them and the needs they have.
My students have great abilities which are highlighted when instruction and assignments are designed and delivered to meet their needs.
My students are willing to take risks to better themselves. They are full of personality and seem to enjoy school and life in general. These students never give up and work through challenges and difficulties daily and often with a smile on their face!
My Project
These piano keyboards will provide access to add musical components in my classroom and in the lives of my students. Many of my students would like to learn how to play a musical instrument but the design and style of many general education band and orchestra classes are not accessible for my students.
Having a classroom set of these piano keyboards will provide my students with an amazing opportunity to learn and grow in a variety of ways.
These supplies will allow me the opportunity to use my talent and knowledge of playing the piano and share that opportunity with my students. I plan to use my special education teaching strategies and accommodations to help my students access and successfully learn about music and playing the piano and eventually perform for a small group of peers or staff.
Teaching students how to play the piano will address a variety of learning styles - from auditory to kinesthetic. These students, and students to follow, will have an opportunity to learn, practice, and perform in a way they may not have had the opportunity or experience doing before. This opportunity will provide my students with increased confidence, practicing persistence, strengthening their fine motor skills, and heightening their creativity.
