Piano Keyboards For The Choir

I am a public high school choral director teaching students in grades 9 through 12 in a county in North Carolina which has a large low income population and a very large military dependent population. A very large number of our students are on the free and reduced lunch program. As a vocal music teacher, student understanding of and some facility on the piano keyboard is central in the process of learning to read and perform music. I have students working to prepare for music studies at the college level who's parents cannot afford a piano, an electronic keyboard,or piano lessons.

I am repeatedly asked by students for piano lessons. These [and all] my students would greatly benefit from the opportunity to use and apply piano instruction as they gain knowledge and skills required education and training on the college level, and for musical expression and enjoyment for the whole of their lives.

I am requesting two electronic keyboards and two pairs of plug in earphones to initiate a "mini-piano lab" which would be available to students in the chorus room after school, for instruction and practice. I would provide students with individual piano instruction and piano resource materials. Following my instruction, the students would have the ability, using the earphones, to practice "silently" while I conduct an after school ensemble rehearsal, or coach another individual student.

Your help with this project will enable these students to have the equipment needed to begin piano instruction, to have a place to practice where the teacher, teacher resources, and instructional materials are available for their use and benefit. These students want to learn, they have strong desire to grow and develop as individuals and as knowledgable performing musicians. Your help will enable them in this process.
