Imagine teaching multiple students from a low-income community piano on one keyboard! My students have a voracious appetite to learn and perform music, but unfortunately the time we spend together limits them to one exercise per class. My students are curious, enthusiastic, and creative. most of my students come from low income housing and receive free or reduced lunch. The only time they are exposed to musical instruments is in the classroom or in an after school club. If the students had access to individual keyboards, I could then help those who are struggling on an exercise to gain mastery, and allow those students able to move on to flourish. My students need an outlet, and for some music is a great and productive outlet. When my students act out and misbehave they are telling me they need help. I believe music is a great outlet and I want to help them focus that energy into something positive and rewarding.
My students want to learn how to play the piano. We only have one Piano at the moment, and with this purchase, we can have 10 more. This means more time actually playing and learning and less time waiting to use the one piano we have. More kids will benefit and I have a big classroom where all 10 keyboards will fit. The children will receive more hands-on lessons. We will be able to have more performances for parents so they can see what their kids are learning in music. These kids deserve a chance to shine and having more keyboards will help them do this.
