Pi day is always one of my students favorite days in math class, and I want to make it even more fun!
They love hands on activities (who doesn't!) and really enjoyed putting together 3D shapes.
They need more practice with using circles and pi. I think they will enjoy being able to have their own set of circles to do this activity, since many have asked me to take home pieces from other projects we have done. When math goes home to share everyone is happy!
My Project
I have requested Ellison dies because they will provide the same set of circles to every single student working on our pi day project. They will even be able to take them home. The dies will help me pre-cut multiple sized circles for the activity they will be doing. Our school already has the cutting machine, but only letter dies, and some shapes will really help the whole school as well.
Math is always a critical part of understanding the world, and as they compare circles diameter with the circumference using the cut-out from the Ellison circle dies they will start relating the circles they use to other circles they will encounter in every day life!
