My Students
Help Create a physics classroom! Provide a new opportunity for Science students at our school!
These nontraditional students attend an alternative high school in the rural western United States.
At our school, money is short and the need for classroom supplies is high. These students need an interesting, hands-on alternative to the tedious and boring computer based lessons that are currently offered.
My Project
Currently, there is not a lot of opportunity to complete physics experiments at our school. Many of my science students have requested a physics course, but I am on a limited budget and cannot accommodate many of their requests.
With the requested Knex Roller Coaster Track and Photogates, my students will be able to study the dynamics of moving bodies in a hands-on and interesting way. By building the model and running the experiments, students will be able to see the effect of the characteristics of the model on the motion of the object on the track. This type of engagement is highly conducive to student learning.
By donating to this project, you will help inspire future scientists by providing a simple but interesting model to be used in hands-on experiments in a physics class.
This experimental apparatus will be a welcome departure from the tedium provided by the current computer-based lessons.
My classroom suffers from low attendance, due to a low level of interest in sitting and staring at a computer. Every time a new hands-on opportunity is developed, interest peaks and engagement increases.
