Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diligent in their studies and resilient in life. They are aspiring engineers, physicians, nurses, and teachers. All of them are on free lunch, and they are now enrolled in one of the most difficult courses in the school--my physics class. I want to ensure all of them have the materials necessary so we have a culture that thrives on their resilience.
My students are from low-income areas, and are survivors of Hurricane Harvey.
They face enough obstacles outside of school: I want to make sure they can be successful in my classroom as I prepare them for their next phase: graduating from a 4-year college.
My Project
All of these materials were intentionally planned out with the intention of improving or showcasing student learning, as well as improving a fun, safe environment for a rigorous course. We will use white boards to display answers to questions and check for whole group understanding. Poster boards to present scientific findings. Posters to inspire students in STEM. Science objects (like Newton's cradle) to provide actual, tangible demonstrations. I have chosen items that are affordable, essential, and, most importantly: impactful. Anything not provided on this list will be something I work to provide for my students personally!
All help and generosity will make a magical difference in my classroom, and for these students who have difficulty providing basic school supplies every day.
