My Students

Remember the magic of science class when you were growing up? Physics opens up a world of wonder and excitement for young minds. While learning important concepts, we get to have fun with the coolest toys in school.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and, from the start, I try to instill a sense of wonder and awe in science in every student.

The magic of Physics comes alive in my room with interactive projects, hands-on labs, and mind-blowing demos that reveal deep misconceptions most of us have about how things work. On the first day of school, my students work together to try to understand how Lenz' Law works (without ever having been taught the concept). It's amazing to see the ideas that sprout forth on that first day. From then on, they are constantly challenged and must defend their positions with evidence.

My Project

I run seven lab stations in my Physics classroom. All of them are fully functional with a laptop, PASCO lab interface box, and loads of digital sensors and probes that can be used for data collection. A few of our aging lab computers are on their last legs and are in need of replacing. To get up to date I am trying to get replacements. My students will be able to collect all sorts of data with more reliability with the new laptop and it will keep me from having to completely shut down a lab station when a computer won't turn on or won't get up and running correctly (it happens from time to time). The other item is for our classroom overhead projector. I have an old-school projector that I put our daily learning goals on and the bulbs do not last long. We are in need of some replacement bulbs that will get us through the next 5 years or so. Thank you very much for considering this project!
