Physics! I'm Building a Friction Lab

My students need to have 10 friction cubes and 10 pulleys so that they can learn about friction in small groups in class.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember learning physics and science? I bet you remember the fun labs! Science should be hands-on! Help me build a lab.

Students are 9th through 12th grade students at an inner city, urban high school.

They vary in class, race and gender. They attend a public high school in Utah. The labs would serve AP and IB physics classes, as well as general Physics classes, with a large range of academic skills.

My Project

The students will learn how to measure the coefficient of kinetic and static friction. They can compare the difference between various surfaces on the friction cube. The pulleys will also be used in a labs to provide a constant force: such as constant acceleration labs.

Hands-on labs engage the students and provide motivation for the content.

This is especially true in Physics. The lab equipment is essential in order to inspire students to become future engineers and scientists.
