My Students

Learning about electrostatics is often difficult for students because of the particulate nature. In other words, they can't see it. This issue can be easily remedied by the use of a Van de Graaff generator.

Our school serves about 1700 students, most of whom are minority and from low-income homes.

Our students are bright and learn best when doing group activities that allow them to move. Our school has made tremendous academic gains over the last few years. It is due to the growing commitment between the students and the staff to be successful despite the many challenges we face.

My Project

The Van de Graaff Generators, discharge wands, Faraday cages and electric field demonstration kits will allow our students to see the effects of the subatomic particles that make life as we know it possible. What could be cooler than that? Additionally, having multiples of these items will allow our five physics teachers the ability to reach more students with the activities at the same time, rather than having to move one piece of equipment around the department throughout the unit.

Our students notice when we lack the necessary equipment to do proper demonstrations and labs.

Our students deserve to feel like they are worth investing in. Having the tools to observe the fundamental principles governing our world is one way we can help accomplish this.
