This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love my students and wish they would read more for pleasure. It seems like the rise of smartphones has caused the decline of reading for pleasure. I want to introduce my students to science reading - reading popular books about science that are both factual, informative, and easy to follow. Neil deGrasse Tyson is the master of science communication. Plus, he is a great role model for my students who are all students of color. In addition to a classroom set of Starry Messenger I would love to have a few copies of Cosmos to make sure they are able to see the progression through time of ideas and understandings. The fact that science is a constantly evolving field is both daunting and beautiful. I can't wait to have my students read some of the experts!
