This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my school are full of curiosity. They ask great questions and want to learn. They deserve opportunities to discover what the world has to offer.

My students are poor financially but not in ability.

Every student has a story that begins before they walk through our doors, but the plot thickens inside our walls with tales of heroism and courage, perseverance and tenacity. There are no magic words that create success for them. It is their hard work mixed with the opportunities and experiences we provide that allow them to develop the plot into a masterful tale of overcoming and excellence. Stories of lives where things may not always have a "happily ever after", but they do see dreams come true.

My Project

Kitchen Science creates opportunities for reading, math, and science integration while providing experiences that build background knowledge and strengthen collaboration skills.

Students will work in teams to read recipes, multiply and divide fractions to determine amounts of ingredients needed to create larger and smaller recipes, and measure those ingredients to use.

They will make pies and ice cream comparing and contrasting the physical and chemical changes occurring to each dessert. Students will engage in discussions with their teammates and record data in their science notebooks.

When it is time for tasting, students will switch groups and discuss their findings with their classmates.
