Physical Education Equipment

My students need a Boombox with iPod cradle, radio, CD, MP3 capabilities for our gym. Many Physical Education lessons and units utilize music to increase student learning and motivation.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you like to move it, move it? My physical education students do! Our students need a stereo so that they can continue to keep moving and learn how and why to be physically active for the remainder of their lives!

My students are primarily African American and Hispanic.

They attend a public school in a suburban setting in Illinois. Our students wear uniforms in order to keep the streets out of our school. Over 80% of my students are receiving free and reduced breakfast and lunches at school. Many of my students do not have the financial means to play sports such as soccer, football, hockey, baseball, basketball, swimming, dance, gymnastics etc. in private leagues or park district leagues. Physical Education class is their only introduction and experience in many sports and physical activities. That being said our 3 year old physical education program is missing a lot of necessary equipment to give these children the experiences that they deserve.

My Project

Being lucky enough to receive the donations to purchase a stereo for our gymnasium will be invaluable. It will allow our students to learn dances, rhythm, tempo, gross motor skills, etc. Music can also be used in physical education as a source of motivation. Children enjoy moving to music. Music can also be used as a cross curricular topic with subjects like music, art and social studies. Having a stereo in our physical education class can help transition between activities, indicate when to stop and start movement and when it is time to clean up. Utilizing music in these situations can help utilize the most amount of time on student learning and movement.

If we are fortunate enough to receive the stereo it will not only be able to be used in Phys.

Ed. but during assembly's, field day and other school wide activities as well. This one stereo provide my students with endless possibilities when it comes to lesson planning. Please help our class enjoy this simple yet effective teaching tool and allow our students to move it move it!
