My students are primarily African American and Hispanic. They attend a public school in a suburban setting in Illinois. Our students wear uniforms in order to keep the streets out of our school. Over 80% of my students are receiving free and reduced breakfast and lunches at school. Many of my students do not have the financial means to play sports such as soccer, football, hockey, baseball, basketball, swimming, dance, gymnastics etc. in private leagues or park district leagues. Physical Education class is their only introduction and experience in many sports and physical activities. That being said our 3 year old physical education program is missing a lot of necessary equipment to give these children the experiences that they deserve.
