This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As the new Physical Education teacher at my school, I am walking into very little to no supplies needed for a productive school year in Physical Education. I am in need of basic equipment in order to run my class. Our students are in desperate need of a wide variety of materials. We live in the Rio Grande Valley at the very south tip of Texas with 99.9% of students being of Hispanic descent and 99.5% are economically disadvantaged with very low socioeconomic households.

Help me to give all my students the opportunity to be great in physical education by providing them with footballs, soccer balls, indoor goals, baseball bats, baseballs, and basic physical education equipment that will allow us to practice basic skills to prepare them for future school sports activities.

In order for this to happen, it is imperative that students have the necessary supplies in the classroom. This is my first year teaching and I want it to be the best, and most enjoyable class for my students.

Many of these students have life and family challenges that affect them in many ways, including academics. However, PE is one area where many of these kids excel. It gives them an outlet and a feeling to discover, explore and learn. It gives them an outlet to experience success. It is my occupation to get these students moving and learn the skills that will make them feel good and become lifelong fitness learners.

The PE room is empty, with very limited and/or old supplies to enhance the physical education experience. I want to ensure that my students have an opportunity to have physical equipment and materials to help them practice and learn the skills needed to keep them motivated in physical fitness and excel.
