The school in which I work in has a population of approximately 90% PreK-6 grade special education students. These students warm my heart and work so hard on their Physical Education skills while in the gymnasium. Each one of them comes into the gym with a big smile and wondering what exciting activities we will be doing that day.
Every student has a need to explore and move in Physical Education class.
These 100 students love to move and explore throughout class. They are willing to try new things and get excited over the littlest things as well.
My Project
Physical education is a class where all students should succeed in learning new physical skills and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle. I work in a special education elementary school where my students need more resources to help make them successful. Most of my students need equipment that you wouldn't find in a regular elementary school. The variety of equipment helps with the diversity of each lesson. Some students need equipment that he/she can grip easier, see easier or find the texture soothing.
By providing the right equipment to a special education student, he or she can make significant progress in physical education.
The rubber floor markings will help give my students direction in the gymnasium. The sensory balls will provide better grip for a student who doesn't have good control of finger extension. Sensory balls also help students with Autism that crave to have tactile or visual sensory input. This project will enhance the experience for many students in physical education.
