Inner city High school students who lack any daily physical educational programs have requested a school yoga club.
Many of the students at my school are over-weight and participate in little or no physical activity.
Since the senior prom is approaching, a few female students began talking about becoming more healthy. More than a dozen of the students expressed a strong desire to take yoga classes.
My Project
In order to provide the students with this amazing opportunity, we need yoga mats for cushioning and slip protection, as we will be conducting our class on the hard wood floors.
By providing my students with yoga mats you will not only be enhancing their physical well-being, bolstering their self-esteem and self-image, but also enhancing their mental well-being, which ultimately will make the school environment a more enjoyable place to learn.
My students are minority students who live in a violent neighborhood on Atlanta's south side; for them “peace and quiet in the mind” is not something that they often come by, so to obtain it is a priceless gift--and yoga gives it to them.
