I work with an amazing and loving group of special needs students at the the kindergarten level. Every day, I am impressed with their strength and ability to learn, grow and love, even in the face of serious challenges. My students have a variety of moderate to severe disabilities including autism, learning, physical/medical, social/emotional and neurological impairments. Due to these students' levels of need, and inability to learn on-line, they remain in school , even when the remainder of the district is remote.
While I am fortunate to be able to teach these remarkable students in person, there are many limitations, and safety measures to be followed, which limits physical activity opportunities.
One of these limitations is the inability to use the playground, so that the Covid virus is not spread. This is understandable, but leaves few items to utilize for physical play, especially as the weather gets colder.
I would love to provide my students with a variety of fun, easy to clean, gross-motor items to use on a daily basis. I want to make sure that their minds and bodies continue to grow and develop!
My Project
My students are active Kindergartners with special needs, who need a variety of fun, engaging gross-motor toys to use at school in place of the school playground, which can no longer be used due to Covid. All of the items chosen are engaging and easy to clean between individual use. The balance beam helps to develop balance and body awareness, the spinner and hop balls develop core and spatial awareness, and the ball games help to develop throwing and aim skills.
By donating to this project, you will help young, special needs students to continue to develop their physical skills, in a variety of fun, engaging ways!
