Our school is located in rural Kentucky. We have 1/2 of our students that come from families with incomes below the poverty rate. We are also in close proximity to a military base and frequently we have children that are transitioning to a new home and school environment. Besides these challenging situations, we have begun to experience a drug epidemic in our small community which continues to grow and influence the area. Our students have many challenges before they even step foot into the door of the school.
My Project
I am requesting items that will get our students moving to increase their learning opportunities. Research has shown that students can increase their ability to retain information when we combine learning and moving. We want to give these students the earliest opportunity to increase their academic knowledge.
We can give the students all the love they need when they are with us, but, we can not provide additional proprioceptive feedback and gross motor movements without the items requested.
We like to get our students up and moving to increase their participation and to help with retention of materials and skills learned.
