Have you ever wished that you learned more about the latest technology when you were in school? Have you felt technologically behind during COVID? Sadly, the Mississippi Delta is not known for its advancements in technology. But, it's not much different from anywhere else when it comes to its needs, like increasing the number of coders, robotics teams, 3D-printers, and alternative energy specialists.
My school has sought to challenge the narrative that follows students in the Mississippi Delta by turning students towards these opportunities; investing in STEM means turning our students into 21st century global citizens who can compete in any job market.
Compared to others in the Delta, our classroom is an outlier. We have a multitude of projects, ranging from programmable robotic helicopters to smart buildings with alternative energy units. However, COVID-19 has created a chasm that means decreased access to this equipment compared to districts with more STEM resources for comprehensive virtual learning.
We're seeking funding to provide one-to-one technology and parts for all students. Each donation we receive will get us closer to closing the gap.
These drones will be used as the culmination of the coding projects my students have been completing. Through block code and then script, my students have accomplished quite a lot in a short period of time. However, doing these projects online can make it tough to see the fruits of their labor.
The Makeblock Airblock Kit allows students to build, program, test out, and iterate drones with ease, allowing them to apply their coding prowess to the Engineering Design Process.
A product like the Makeblock will allow students to see their learning come to life.
