My Students

I teach a small group of incredibly creative, bright, and hardworking kindergarten and first grade students in a special education setting. They come to school everyday ready to learn and practice the life skills they need to be successful.

My students are full of vibrant energy and, although diverse, come together as a positive, excited, and curious group of serious learners.

They inspire me constantly and push me to be the best teacher I can be. To meet my students' diverse needs, I must utilize a strength-based and interest-driven teaching approach. To do this, my classroom requires different sensory toys and materials, items that can be used to motivate students and reinforce hard work, and social-emotional books and curriculum that teach appropriate behavior. We also do A LOT of crafting. Any and all donation are appreciated! Thank you!

My Project

My students rely on visual schedules to help them understand what's planned for the day and to help them transition between activities. Using actual photos of my students engaged in the different activities not only excites them, but helps them recognize events in a more powerful way than general or cartoon images. With an instant photo printer, personalized visual schedules could be made quickly and easily.

Additionally, my social-emotional curriculum incorporates social stories, and my students learn best from stories that have actual pictures of them engaging in appropriate behaviors.

With an instant photo printer, I could create social stories as soon as I recognize a social skill that needs to be reinforced or taught.

Visual cues help remind my students of classroom expectations and I'd love to use pictures of them as the cues, to remind them that they already know what to do. An instant photo printer would make this so easy!
