This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Snap! Snap! Snap! That is the sound of our digital camera snapping pictures around the classroom documenting their learning. Wouldn't have loved to create your own classroom bulletin board when you were a kid? Well, my students get to but they aren't able to publish photos easily to add captions.

My teaching partner and I became one of the few true co-teach models in our school in fourth grade.

We set up our classroom in two different rooms. One for seat work and one open-concept classroom. We believe that students like to have varied surroundings to complete and focus on learning tasks. We centered our classroom around high-achievement and teamwork. Now I will tell you a little about the population in this classroom. Twenty-one students out of thirty-nine, speak another language at home fluently (including Spanish and Vietnamese). We have a variety of learning needs. We have students that have language goals (4/39), identified learning disabilities (8/39), IEPs for AGP (6/39), articulation (1/39), 504 plans (5/39), receives free or reduced lunch (36/39) and ELL support (9/39). Exactly 12/39 students have been retained in previous years in their elementary career (one student has been retained twice). About 75% of our students are below level in at least one area.

My Project

We have a photographer in our classroom that documents our classroom activities and learning each and every day. It is so complicated for her to know how to use the camera's USB to print black and white photos on regular printer paper. It just doesn't do our learning activities justice. We were planning to put them on our bulletin board but it just looks like blobs of gray and black. With the requested photo printer, memory card, and a print ribbon cassette, our photographers will be taking the pictures from the camera and putting together a display on our bulletin boards so that the students can see their learning in action. It will get them more excited to learn and see themselves working the very next day!

It is an effective tool to showcase the positive actions in the classroom so that the students see the impact that they have had while working together.

They strive to do their best because they want to be noticed by their peers and the other teachers.
