My students need 3 memory cards and hard camera cases for their digital cameras, as well as a photo printer so they can use their photos for projects in class.

My Students

Fred Rogers used songs, storytelling, and puppetry to teach children about families and their values. I would love for my students to learn about families through all of these things and with other tools, like technology, as well. I want to make sure that they realize how special they are.

I teach first grade in an urban charter school in Pennsylvania.

Many of my students come from low-income families. We are a full-inclusion school with a high percentage of students with special needs. My first-graders are incredible kids. They come from all kinds of families and homes, have all sorts of interests, and their personalities are unique to each of them. I love spending my day with them!

My Project

My students are still learning about what makes them unique and special. This year, I've adopted a new social studies/character education curriculum based on the ideas and values of Fred Rogers, who spent his adult life working to help each child realize his or her value. I want to help my students learn about themselves and the world around them. As we work through this curriculum, we will spend time talking about our families. I want my students to have a chance not only to talk about their families, but share pictures of them with each other. In order to do this, we need additional resources. Thanks to DonorsChoose, my students received 3 digital cameras to use; now they need the memory cards, cases, and a printer to go with them! Imagine how much my students will love sharing pictures with each other, and how much they'll learn!

Giving my students memory cards, cases, and a printer for their digital cameras means giving them the freedom to explore what makes each family special.

They will share what they learn with their classmates and tell stories about their families. Their stories will mix with those of Fred Rogers, giving them a richer understanding of what it means to be in a family. Won't you be our donor?
