I am a fourth year Kindergarten teacher in a low-income public school in Oakland, Ca. Over 90% of our student population qualifies for the federally funded breakfast/lunch program. I teach a variety of students from a multitude of different cultures: Philipino, African American, Chinese, and Hispanic. I am a photographer by nature and use photographs and visual aids daily to document and teach across the curriculum. I also use photographs to show the process of a lot of our projects so that the students can go back and see all the steps leading up to a completed project and their successes and challenges along the way.
Help, OUR DIGITAL CAMERA WAS STOLEN. Over the summer we had a theft and our classroom camera was stolen. I have been using my personal camera in the classroom but would like to have one for the students and me to use on a daily basis. We document our daily life in the classroom with the camera and use the photos as research and reflection about certain units in our class. Currently we have discovered caterpillars in our garden and want to document their life cycle! (teachable moment!!!) We need a camera for photos and a printer to print out our photos of this process and MANY MORE TO COME!!!
We need a digital camera, photo printer and paper to document daily life in the classroom, projects, science, art, our specific English Language Arts Units, and Math. This project will allow the students to look back and reflect on the processes of projects, daily life in the classroom and school, see how science, math, art and language are a part of our daily existence. It will benefit future Kindergarten students and it will get students to look at their world from a whole new perspective!
You will make it possible for my students to see how the world works! It will enable them to see the beauty and learning processes around them and give them a greater appreciation of their environments.
