Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love teaching my students how to read. Everything I know about teaching reading I have learned through professional development.

Every year, I have several students who struggle with learning to read.

Often these students have special needs, such as a learning disability or autism. I want to learn all I can about phonological awareness and how kids learn to read so that I can help these students. I want to learn and understand how to assess and teach phonological awareness to students in all three tiers of RTI. In addition, I want to learn how to assess and evaluate my students in alphabet awareness, including letter recognition and sound recognition.

These two training will provide me with the knowledge I am seeking. I will then be able to take what I have learned and apply it within my classroom. My goal is to be the best reading teacher I can be.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
