In the upcoming school year I will be transitioning to first grade and I am so excited to be able to teach phonics skills with my students. Many young learners benefit from hands on tools when learning abstract skills like segmenting and blending during reading instruction. These tools will help support students as they practice and build a strong foundation for reading skills as they continue to master more phonics skills.
First grade is a key year for reading instruction and foundational skills.
The reading phones help students differentiate between sounds when learning new spelling sound patterns. The segmenting and blending tools will help students as they learn to put different letters together when building and reading words. The read aloud story will allow me to teach students about the amazing schwa in a fun and light way and help them understand its importance in the English language.
As a teacher who has taught many other grade levels I am thrilled to be stepping into a first grade classroom and look forward to filling my shelves with tools to support the learning of young scholars.
