Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This proposal is for a first grade class in a low income neighborhood where the majority of the children earn free or reduced lunch.
The students in my class are second language learners and the majority come to first grade reading below grade level. They are in need of extra phonics practice that is fun and engaging. The Listen and Learn Word Family Activity Program is a ready to use program that guides children through 19 high interest activities - reinforcing 37 common word families along the way. The children use a cassette and write and wipe markers to build words, then complete sentences. There is enough materials for up to 8 children to work at once.
The other item is a Picture-Word Phonics Puzzle kit (level 1&2). Kids fit self-checking puzzles together and build language skills piece by piece. Each box includes 12 two-piece puzzles that focus on the same vowel sound-all with a picture on one side and a corresponding word on the other.
These items would be great to have in any classroom. My students would benefit from the extra phonics practice that doesn't involve the boring pencil and paper worksheets. Thank you in advance for helping me boost the reading level in my classroom.
