This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
One of the greatest joys of teaching is seeing the different ways my student learn. My visual learners need pictures while my kinesthetic learners like to act things out. My left-brained thinkers are more analytical while my right-brained thinkers see things more holistically.
My students engage in various routines each morning to build their reading and writing skills.
At the beginning of the year, we worked on consonant-vowel-consonant words. Now we are studying more complex phonics patterns as well as inflectional endings. These routines meet the needs of a majority of my students, but there are a few who process information differently.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will supplement my daily phonics lessons and will serve as intervention for struggling readers. The rhyme sorting house and word family fridge will help with phonemic awareness, the magic board printing practice cards will help with letter formation, the sequencing cards will help with story sequencing, and the word tiles will help with blending.
This project will make a difference because it will allow me to differentiate instruction for my students.
I am constantly reflecting on the ways that my instruction does (and does not) accommodate my students' various learning styles. In a room full of diverse learners, I am realizing that my instructional toolkit must be equally diverse.
