My Project
First grade is such a pivotal year in a young learner's development. As a teacher, I want my students to grow and become strong readers and writers. The latest research about the Science of Reading has emphasized just how important a strong foundation in phonological awareness can be to the long-term success of a reader. The items I am requesting will add practicality and elements of fun to our daily literacy block.
The orthographic mapping boards will allow my students to hear a word, identify the different sounds, and then match a letter to each specific sound.
Orthographic mapping is a vitally important strategy that has turned struggling readers into budding readers. All kids love to play games, and I know my students will LOVE the variety of these phonics games. Not only will these games help reinforce our daily phonics skills, but they will also be a fun way to spend partner and small group time.
