A healthy classroom library provides students with access to books which allows them to read at high volume and high success. With books at their fingertips, readers will then be able to experience high levels of accuracy, fluency and comprehension. This is when the magic happens! Not only is it important for students to have access to books that they can read, but they also need access to books they want to read. Choice is a huge motivating factor that has been proven to increase interest, engagement, and motivation in all levels of readers. Choice matters! To have choice, a classroom library needs an abundance of books. Many refer to the classroom library as being the heart of the classroom, and I believe this to be true. Books spark passion and wonder which helps to form our future builders, inventors, and problem-solvers. Help my first-graders become lifelong readers!
