My first-grade students love to learn! Every morning they walk into our classroom with a big smile. They love to read, to be read to, play math games, work on coding, and write stories. They are curious and inquisitive children, and they challenge me every day to grow with them and be the best I can be.
We work hard to create a classroom community where students can explore, wonder, and discover the world around them.
We ask questions, share our ideas, expand our learning environment using technology, and publish our work to share with the world. They work and collaborate with one another to learn.
Our school also focuses on character building. Children's kindness and compassion are recognized and celebrated. We are proud to be a part of an amazing school. We are a family. We learn, play, laugh, and grow together!
My Project
First grade is a year most students learn to read. One of the skills that needs daily practice is phonics and phonemic awareness. We work hard every day to become a fluent reader.
To reach all learners' needs in my classroom I would like to incorporate some tools to make reading instructions more multi-sensory.
Tools such as play doh, finger lights, and pop its create tactile and kinesthetic learning experiences. Students will sound out words as they smash the play doh balls or press the bubbles on pop its. They can write sight words with a finger light. Whisper phones will help students hear their voices up close as they practice reading in a busy classroom. Students will practice writing words on a dry erase boards. Most of all all these tools will make learning to read more fun and engaging!
