This year, I started a new teaching chapter as an Intervention Specialist in a new school in a new district! My primary role is supporting students' individual needs to improve their academic outcomes through targeted, small group instruction. My students are energetic, eager kids who are ready to learn!
I want to provide them with a rich, engaging and exciting classroom and hands-on content to keep them intrigued and loving school.
I work with students from kindergarten through fifth grade, so their needs vary greatly. I'm working to create a welcoming environment with a library of engaging resources for some of our school's highest needs students.
My Project
This project will allow me to provide fun, engaging ways to practice skills and concepts we have been working on during our intervention sessions. After a skill has been taught, it's time to practice it and apply it! But in order for this to maintain students' interest, it's important to provide a variety of activities that tap into different learning styles and are perceived as game play by students.
Puzzles, word building activities, and matching games will take newly learned material and transform it into fun, targeted practice that will allow me to gauge students' progression towards mastery.
Coming to a room for intervention can already be intimidating to struggling students. It's critical that their time with me be a balance of explicit instruction and engaging practice. This project will bring additional targeted activities to help foster early literacy skills.
