I am a new teacher in an A+ Arts Magnet school of choice that offers academic learning with an art, music, drama, and dance emphasis. Whether the low income, high poverty, neighborhood student or the student that applied to attend just for the arts, everyone is benefiting from the hands-on, engaging learning opportunities that our magnet school is offering.
But for creative and captivating lessons, it takes capital and even though my students are rich in love and excitement, they need help to afford the resources.
I can't rely on family members to send in everything we need and I don't want capital to stop us from finding the most inventive way to learn new material and demonstrate that knowledge. So as I teach my students about compassion, responsibility and helping others, I pray that you will join us on our path.
My Project
Learning to read and comprehend is a major step in the first grade. In order for students to read, they must put sounds together to make words. This can be difficult for many students. But when they are able to practice these skills in a fun, hands-on way, it helps them to keep from getting too frustrated.
Children learn best from doing and working with others.
The Final E Instant Learning Center will provide a center where four students can work together at one time to unscramble final-E words at their own pace using step by step directions, write & wipe assessment cards and letter pieces. The Pop & Match Beginning Phonics Complete Game Set will present students with opportunities to perfect their beginning, middle and ending sounds using color-coded poppers and write & wipe assessment cards. The instruction chart of step by step directions, write & wipe assessment cards, and letter dice will deliver six different centers to work on vowel sounds, decoding 2-syllable words, and mastering prefixes & suffixes in Phonics Instant Learning Centers Complete Set. When students use the Stack & Build Phonics Flip Books they will apply 125 tiles to any of the twelve flip books to spell words and practice short vowels, long vowels, and blends & digraphs. I know that these tactile learning activities should be pivotal lessons for helping students learn to read.
