Help me give my students an opportunity to enjoy learning from the beginning via a listening center to promote speech by hearing phonetic sounds consistently.
The student population is made up of three-year-old autistic students and this is their initial contact with a structured environment. The students are taught basic fundamental skills of alphabets, phonics, counting, geometric shapes, colors, story-time, etc. Students follow a standard curriculum. The students range in cognitive skills and abilities.
Students progress at an individual level.
Each student has his/her own particular set of goals designed to enhance his/her capabilities and skills. The vast majority of students progress with obvious demonstrated skills.
My Project
In order to assist the students in developing speech patterns/sounds, I am requesting a listening center which will enable students to hear and repeat the phonetics of the alphabet. The students will be guided on a daily basis with the listening center. Some students are not verbal and the listening center will prove invaluable to these students, in terms of assisting in the development of their vocabulary. It is necessary for students to identify alphabets by sound, or recognition. The listening center should enhance the student's ability to distinguish sounds. The students are read stories daily and receive xeroxed pictures of the characters/animals to color. The purpose of this is to reinforce the story and promote fine motor skills.
Students are encouraged to participate orally, and demonstrate the varied activities by displaying in the hallway, classroom or to take home.
The more resources, the more opportunities to encourage learning.
