My Project

Hello all!

I am currently enrolled in grad school to learn more about the proper way of teaching students how to read and have discovered the importance of phonemic awareness.

Phonemic awareness is the ability to manipulate discrete sounds in spoken words and is a foundational skill required for children to become successful readers and it all begins in kindergarten! Research conducted by the National Reading Panel has suggested that "even very modest amounts of instruction – as little as 5 to 10 hours in total – in phonological awareness at this stage [grades k to one] can yield significant benefits to children's reading and spelling achievements (Ehri, 2004) (Reading Rockets, 2022).” Therefore, I am improving my teaching strategies by finding hands-on and engaging activities that enhance students' phonemic awareness, and with your help I can!
