Help me give my students pencils, markers, crayons, and glue sticks so they can have the supplies they need at school, and give my students the gift of phonemic awareness through rhyming books and magnetic wands.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative, loving, and full of things to say! They absolutely love hands-on activities, learning through song, and praising each other for their accomplishments! They come to school each day excited to see what we are going to learn about next and trying new things!
Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty bringing needed supplies to school or completing practice assignments at home because of lack of resources.
However, they are always proud of their accomplishments and refuse to allow these barriers to impact their learning!
My Project
The use of dry erase markers, crayons, pencils, and glue sticks are used daily in my classroom for a variety of reading, math, science, and social studies activities. However, we often have to take turns using these items due to lack of supplies. These items are not only necessary for the most basic of classroom activities, but they also help my students continue to develop their fine motor skills that are crucial as they progress through their education.
Moreover, first grade is a very important stage in which students are learning how to read, which is why it is so important that they are read to daily, especially with books that develop their phonological awareness.
The books listed will not only assist my students in rhyming or alliterations, they will also help them develop an awareness that words are made up of sounds. Children need to be able to hear the sounds in words before they can begin to read or write them. For some students, phonological awareness skills come more naturally, but for many of my students, the ability to hear those sounds needs to be practiced and taught. The use of magnetic wands and chips will help them begin to "see" those sounds as they stretch out words.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to give every child a set of supplies, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement, and give them the tools they need to read.
