Help me give my students a deeper understanding of their phonics development by learning how to decode words and comprehend their meanings. Phonemic awareness allows proper word use of words. It is an essential skill set!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students come to 2nd grade eager to learn about words which they quickly connect to their reading development as well as their writing. Phonics practice builds on a deeper understanding of words, writing conventions and the understanding of the parts of speech. Students also learn how to spell words based on set phonetic rules that facilitate understanding of sounds and eventually the comprehension of specific words. Students also learn exceptions to rules and grammar. Phonics development is an important tool for 2nd graders as they have more opportunities to write and spell words accurately.
