My Students
I am starting my third year as a special education teacher in this school, and 14th year teaching overall. From the moment I walked through the doors, I knew this school was so special. There are over 600 students in grades 1st through 5th who are eager to attend each and everyday and approximately 50% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. This year, I am teaching 3rd and 4th grade special education in a resource and/or co-teaching classroom.
I want to continue to provide resources that will help my students be successful in school and make necessary gains.
Our school continues to focus on improving our reading and math programs. One way we do this, is by placing students in small groups to focus on specific skills, like fluency and phonemic awareness. My groups are the absolute best! They are so eager to learn.
My Project
My class would love new books for our classroom library. When students are reading these new books, it would be great to introduce them to whisper phones.
Whisper phones help students hear themselves read during independent reading time.
These phones amplify their voice so they can hear themselves read without disturbing others. With the use of whisper phones, students will be able to focus on fluency and blending of sounds. When reading is difficult for a student, they often lose focus. The whisper phones can help with keeping their attention to the task. Last, they will become a better reader and gain confidence.
