Philly Fifth Graders Love Quiet Reading Time!

My Project

This project is to set up a new library in my new fifth grade classroom. I currently have bins for picture books and lightweight chapter books, but will be upgrading my classroom library to fit more chapter books as I make the jump to a fifth grade position.

Independent Reading time is becoming more and more rare across the country, but I like to keep it alive and well in my ELA classroom for at least twenty minutes daily.

We will be switching curriculum next year, but I am still planning to find time for choice reading time with high-interest titles in our classroom. Also included in this project are chair foot covers to eliminate student chair noise as we move around the room during independent reading time, reading, and writing classes.

No interruption is worse in my opinion than a scratchy, squeaky chair sliding across the hardwood floor while one is deep into an exciting chapter!
