Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach gifted students who love to read. However, many of the books they love to read don't always challenge their intellect. Our classroom needs more class sets of books that ignite the imagination and introduce new ideas and new worlds.
My students are enrolled in the highly gifted international humanities magnet at our school.
They are bright and motivated students who deserve the best. In the five years I've been teaching I have never had the privilege to teach such diligent and admirable students. These children and their families care deeply about education and work hard to show it. My students truly value and utilize any and all resources given to them to enhance their education. They would benefit greatly from the gift of fine literature.
My Project
I am requesting 36 copies of The Phantom Tollbooth. This novel is not only one of the best, in my opinion, teaching tool for English Language and Literature, it is also my personal childhood favorite.
The Phantom Tollbooth is a book that takes readers on a journey through magical lands of literary devices (devices that happen to be part of the California content standards for 5th grade English) and fanciful wonder.
This is a wonderful novel that I very much want my students to experience, especially at this age.
The gift of reading is one of the greatest gifts you can give a child.
These books will awaken my students' imagination in a way that some of the more popular but less challenging books they currently read do not. I'd like to teach my students what quality literature is. Please help me to guide their reading and open their minds. Please donate to this project if you support reading novels as part of the classroom curriculum, want to help foster children's imaginations, or love this book!
