This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The challenges of our times put many families in a quandary unable to meet the daily demands of supporting a family. Even working several jobs many struggle to put food on the table. You can be a part of helping families overcome the obstacles and help their students maximize their potential.
Our students come from various backgrounds.
Many are hard working families with low income jobs. Our students are accustomed to taking on more responsibility than the average child. Many students make dinner, and help care for younger siblings to support their families. Our families are of multiple origins including African American, Caucasian, and Latino. Many of our students are capable and talented but lack resources due to low income families. Through the pantry, students will gain a sense of responsibilty, learn choice making, and become aware of prices. These skills are long life lessons that can be practiced here. Be a part of this wonderful opportunity to help prepare our students for the future.
My Project
The students in our school will be actively involved in many aspects of the pantry. They will be able to select items from the menu. They will make choices about nutritious menus for the families. Second, they will stack the shelves once the order arrives. They will learn a sense of responsibilty as they unpack and make sure items are securely placed in the storage cabinets. Third, they will bag the items in ways that are presentable. The pantry will be used to support volunteers in the school and provide incentives for school involvement. Students will learn lessons that they can apply later in life as they prepare for having families of their own. I am requesting a storage cabinet. Our school has limited space and extra cabinets are hard to come by. I am requesting locked cabinets that will properly store the iteems. Limited access is necessary for this to work. A project like this is successful when we have cooperative leraning. Students will thrive from this experience.
Peter Piper Picked a Pantry is an excellent way for you to give our students a sense of responsibility.
Through this pantry, students will utilize choice making skills and develop a greater understanding of what it means to have a family. Through our partnership with the Maryland Food Bank items are donated. Be a part of this wonderful partnership and sponsor the storage. You provide us with a safe, secure place to store the items, and we'll do the rest. Thank you.
