My Students

Over the past fifteen years, I have had the opportunity to work with varied groups of students. I have seen how good books can open doors to understanding different perspectives and see a great need for this. Learning empathy, kindness, helpfulness, proactivity, doesn't just happen. These are things that are taught. I have seen good text touch students lives, because they see themselves in the characters they read about. I want to broaden their views with the books I have requested.

These past few COVID years, I was able to see how important our systematic phonics instruction has been and areas where students are lacking.

Through LETRS training, I see holes students have in their understanding and have strategies that I have learned that work.

My students are amazing and they are working so hard. I want to continue to offer great text and give them tools to be the best readers they can be.

My Project

Through the LETRS training we are receiving right now, I am able to see the need for a few more resources during my small group instruction of phonemic and phonological instruction. The students we will work with for the next years to come, will have had sickness, missed school time, hybrid learning, etc. and have had holes in their understanding because of all these things.

I want students in our class learn about perspectives from books and cultures that vary from their own to broaden their perspectives.

I hope to give students text where they see themselves and can identify with the characters or topics they read about.
