My Students

My district introduced a new program this year that gave my school an exciting opportunity to become one of the first to welcome this unique program into our community. Our program provides under-credited high school students with the opportunity to earn credits in a way that best fits their needs.

This program provides a very special opportunity for disengaged students by helping them reconnect with a school community.

Through our innovative Project-Based Learning curriculum, students have voice and choice throughout their modules. PBL curriculum not only provides students with the chance to feel proud about their work but also opens the door for social-emotional learning that they can use both inside and outside of the classroom.

Many students in our program have difficulties at home and this program creates a safe space for them to become successful.

Students in our program often feel misunderstood, but with our inclusive community, the same students are now taking pride in their work, their individuality, and their future.

My Project

The variety of crafting materials will be used to help students create and design a children's book. My English II classes have been working on writing and illustrating a children's book that personifies the year 2020.

Each student will be using their own experience to teach the younger generations about the Covid-19 pandemic and their own experience.

Student have been journaling, storyboarding, and brainstorming stories that they will narrow down to one experience.

From that one experience, they will select an object that they want to personify as their main character. At the end of this unit, students will have a children's book that is hand crafted together.
