Help me give my students tools to measure and track a range of human health factors. As we learn about human biology students will collect data on their own dietary choices, health and wellness.
For the first time I will be teaching a semester long Human Biology course this year. The proposal seeks to purchase a range of equipment for measuring and tracking body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, and blood oxygen levels. The taste test strips will allow students to investigate their own genetic inheritance of sensitivity to PTC. Glucose, protein and vitamin C test strips will allow students to test various foods in their diets for specific key nutrients.
This project will help students to see the direct connection between the topics that we are studying in class to their own bodies.
Creating personal connections to the content will create classroom experiences that are "sticky" and memorable. My yearly school budget is $500.00 for all of my Science Classes. It would not be possible to purchase this equipment without the help of DonorsChoose.
Most of the students in this class are interested in pursuing careers in the medical profession after high school graduation. Personalizing students' coursework will help them to retain key health related knowledge that will be essential for their post secondary course work.
