Help me give my students custom water bottles with their names! Our school environment is dry in the winter and having a reusable water bottle will help minimize distractions in class time by alleviating frequent trips.
My 10th grade Algebra II students come from many different math backgrounds, with many transfer students from the Islands. Most students cannot afford school supplies but really like having crisp, new notebooks and fresh markers to create their personalized math notebooks. Adding a personalized custom water bottle will only add to their school pride!
In Hartford, 100% of our students qualify for free lunch and getting supplies proves to be at the bottom of the list when it comes to "needs" vs “wants" within a family budget.
Working in an urban environment definitely poses challenges, but once students "break" their barriers in learning math, the look on their faces says it all!
My Project
My 10th grade Algebra II students come from many different math backgrounds, speak many different languages, use many different modes of transportation, and have many different skills. Many students cannot afford their own school materials and because of all these various factors they often skip class, skip school, and become disengaged with low attendance rates and low test scores. In order to turn disengaged students around, I want to create positive relationships within my Algebra classroom and I also want to create personalization for them so that they want to come to class to learn and gain more skills and knowledge.
Along with providing school supplies, adding a personalized water bottle for each student with their name on it will only add to their school pride and engagement!
I am hopeful that something simple, healthy, and helpful will encourage them to come to class.
