Personalized Instruction Through Technology

My Students

I teach kindergarten through sixth grade students who have yet to master the art of reading. These students are usually from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have not had the same experiences as their more well-to-do peers. Therefore, they often have a limited vocabulary and limited background experiences to pull from.

My students want to succeed.

Many of them understand that reading is the key to a successful future and they want that for themselves. They need you to help them break the cycle of poverty that is trying to drag them down.

My Project

Having Chromebooks in my classroom will allow students to participate in lessons tailored to the skills that they need to practice the most. I am a huge fan of differentiation, believing that students achieve more when they get help on their level and practice the skills that they are weakest at.

This year, I have worked on creating one-on-one lessons for my English Language Learners, providing them with a read aloud and think aloud of the text.

This allows me to emphasize key vocabulary words while modeling how to use context clues to determine word meanings. Further, I am able to teach skill-specific lessons that provide much-needed remediation for my students.

Your donations will help me get the technology that I need to allow my students to access these lessons. Currently, I only have one student computer in my classroom. Having these 2 additional computers will allow me to provide personalized lessons for more of my students. My students' vocabulary and reading skills will improve as a result of your help!
