This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I am teaching technology! I am teaching classes from PK-5th. While I'm teaching an array of grades, most of the classes are from PK-2nd Grade. Majority of the students in the school are Hispanic/Latino and many of them speak in Spanish when they are at home.
With economic disadvantages, all students are receiving both breakfast and lunch in school.
After surveying my classes, it appears that most students are without computer access once they get home. Those who do have access are using their parent/guardian's cell phone or a tablet that is shared within the family.
Over the past 2 weeks, I have been floored with the amount of enthusiasm these students have been showing towards learning computer science!
My Project
For this project, I am hoping to get a Cricut Joy and material to create custom face maks for our little learners. With the uncertainty of what lies ahead, students will need to wear face masks to stay safe.
Being that it can be difficult for our little learners to wear face masks, my hopes are that if they receive a custom made mask, they will want to wear it with pride!
There are various materials and vinyl along with blank reusable face masks that will let me run wild with creativity in giving each child a mask that reflects their individual personality. Not only will this encourage students to wear their masks, but it will let the year start off strong where they will without a doubt know how much they mean to our community!
