This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
With a new emphasis on personalized learning, I plan to offer alternative seating to my students that will allow them to create a space that fosters mindful and productivity learning. My students need a variety of student centered flexible seating options including, wobbly chairs, bouncy bands, lap desks, and bean bag chairs. Our classroom, where we spend the majority of our day, should suit them! Sitting in a chair simply doesn't cut it. Allowing students to explore comfort in the classroom will enhance their ability to creativity and critically thinking. A classroom environment that fosters my students' uniqueness will encourage them to grow.

My Project
My students are learning about choice and taking ownership of their learning. Flexible seating will require students to be self-aware of what types of seating and environment will help them learn best. Students will be empowered by the opportunity of choosing what works best for them. Flexible seating options allow students to have ownership in their learning. Having comfortable options for flexible seating will also allow my students to learn in an environment that best suits their individual learning style. A student-centered classroom cuts down on distractions, behavior issues, and improves work quality. In our classroom, we already have chairs and desks. The majority of students prefer to stretch out their legs or move while they are working. Having a choice of wobble chairs, bouncy bands, lap desks, stools and bean bag chairs will allow my students to work comfortably in a safe nurturing environment. Creating an environment where students are not only excited about coming into their classroom but where they are empowered and engaged, behavior issues are minimal, learning is happening and lifelong habits are being formed is my ultimate goal for my students.
