This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school, and despite the high poverty (over 95% free and reduced lunch) and language barriers, our students come to school with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn and take advantage of new learning opportunities and experiences.
“I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.”- Albert Einstein.
I find this quote to describe my teaching style and environment. I enjoy engaging students in meaningful activities. Learning centers and small groups are a significant part as well.
My Project
My students need a class set of dry erase white-boards in order to receive immediate and precise feedback on the skills they are learning. If every student in our classroom had a personal dry-erase whiteboard, we'd be able to move closer to the ideal of 100 percent engagement every single day. The white boards will function as an accountability tool, enhance engagement, and help foster community-building and teamwork. Furthermore, as a teacher, I'd be able to check the "pulse" of the classroom at any time to determine both class and individual understanding. The whiteboards would function as quick data points from which I could adjust instruction to fit the the needs of my students.
A classroom set of personal dry-erase white boards would impact every student I teach every day.
The boards will help foster a love of learning and immeasurably alter the quantity of meaningful teacher-student and student-student interactions in a given lesson. The boards will help me be sure I am leaving no student behind and sends a clear message to my students that I am serious about personal accountability. Put simply, these boards put the learning directly in the hands of my students.
