My classroom is full of personality, spunk, laughter, and lots of learning in all different kinds of levels. That is because this is Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade Learning Support Classroom. I currently service 20 students from all three grade levels. These students are bright, smart, and oh so talented in so many ways. They just need to have materials introduced to them in a different manner.
That's where I get to be creative in order to provide them with the best education I possibly can!
Our school is from a low-income area. Most of my students live I broken homes or without one (and sometimes both) parents. The school does its best to provide our students with all things they need to be successful: food, clothing, and education.
Despite any setbacks, you would never believe my students have any troubles. They are always eager to be in school and eager to work hard. They are my heroes!
My Project
I am looking to create a Listening Library within my Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade Learning Support Classroom. I believe this not only help with Listening Skills but will also promote Reading Comprehension and Reading Fluency.
Listening to Reading is a key skill that will promote a love of books throughout my whole classroom.
That has always been a personal goal of mine: to show my students just how wonderful books can be!
We use a curriculum in my classroom called GrapeSEED. This is a language acquisition program that requires the use of a listening center in order to further enforce the skills that are being taught in the curriculum. Currently, I use three computers in the rotation, but that doesn't guarantee that every child will get to participate in this vital part of the curriculum daily.
